Nature Adventures Summer Camp brings together the best of summer through what are already natural parts of our martial art: movement, nature, building character and fostering community.
One of the best things about our camp is the extraordinary family feel that fosters life-long friendships and gives students a sense of belonging to something greater than themselves.
Camp meets at our dojo near UNCA, then adventures weekly to our 169 acre farm land, swimming, Splashville, local gardens and much more!
The nature component ties together every other aspect of camp. Through outdoor games and adventures, nature crafts, special topic activities like Farm Fresh Day, Creek Play and Ninja Trail, children will accelerate in our 5 core movement skills, develop self-esteem, learn cooperative skills, and practice the Ninja Kids Club’s 5 core values of honesty, flexibility, bravery, awareness and perseverance.
Two to three days each week, we will take a field trip to our sister site, 169 acre Coggins Farm, complete with bubbling streams, open meadows, old growth forests, farm animals and a community-supported organic garden. We have also planned shorter field trips to places like the Botanical Gardens, the Bird Sanctuary and Splashville.
We run Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 3:30 or 5:30 pm, depending on whether you choose to add on an afternoon martial arts class that day. Open to rising K-6th graders.
Movement education is as central to our summer program as nature exploration is. The two weave together to create one awesome camp experience, building confidence, leaderships skills and character, while fostering connections with friends.
Basically, movement and hands-on experience are the mediums through which we teach, because they are major mediums through which children learn — and because being active and learning new physical skills are some of the best joys of summer!
Every day, we go on a martial arts-based adventure in nature, learning new movement skills, discovering the outdoor world, and exploring our core values.
We also host one teacher each week who specializes in a complimentary movement system like yoga or tai chi to teach a class.
Living with honor, respect, and integrity is an important part of being a martial artist. That’s why we weave our 5 core values of Honesty, Flexibility, Bravery, Awareness and Perseverance into everything we do. Each day of camp, we also directly explore one value in a fun, real-life way.
For example, on Flexibility Day, we might create an obstacle course that teaches us to improvise and go with the flow. On Awareness Day, we may play games that teach us to look before we leap. Bravery Day offers a chance for kids to try something new or share their talents surrounded by support.
We learn it all through movement and play! Activities rotate weekly so there’s always something new to do.
A sense of family is at the forefront of our program. Our summer camp students form real bonds with each other, and also with the land where they will laugh, grow and play.
Students look forward to the morning circles, the camp songs, our one-of-a-kind outdoor games (Ninja Kick the Can is a favorite!), marital arts adventures in the woods and gardens, and our new tradition: the Budo Relay!
Extend your adventure till 5:30 pm with our wonderful summertime martial arts classes. Summer classes have a relaxed and playful environment. Campers will have a 30 minute restorative quiet time before beginning class. Still, we bet they will come home ready for dinner and bed!
